Pieces of me, scattered around,
A silent little voice, drowned completely out.
Pieces of you, the victim unheard,
The cause unspeakable, the consequences absurd.
Pieces of them, silently abused,
Ever told they're worthless, always simply used.
Pieces of the victim, taken, broken, lost,
Messed up, always then discarded, no one gives a toss.
This piece sort of comes from the fact that a number of people I know have been abused in relationships, as a child, or raped. One girl kept silent about her rape for two years, another still carries the baggage of her abuse, and another goes from abusive relationship to abusive relationship. All of these girls have lost their voices in many ways and there are thousands more like them, not just in the UK but worldwide millions. There is simply not enough being done to combat this major issue that leaves far too many women, and men in an alarmingly increasing number of cases, unable to save themselves. If you or someone you know is being abused, contact one of the many organisations that are around who can help. Don't let this issue continue and grow. Stop it. Fight it. The same goes for rape. It is simply not acceptable and no matter the threats that are made, there is always a way out. There is always an alternative to the fear, isolation and pain that dominate a victim's life. Please act against rape and abuse of every kind. Every person can make a difference. xxx
