Now I'll be the first to admit, I've been rather lax about updating the site and writing new pieces lately.... It is the summer holidays after all. I'm trying to spend more time writing, once I have completed the school work I have to do.
As part of my A-level in English Literature, I have to study the Gothic. One of the best film examples of the Gothic, other than Tim Burton films, is Pan's Labyrinth. I love that film, having watched it in class. My dad recommended another film a couple of weeks ago, called Sucker Punch. I wasn't sure when I first began watching it, but then it got interesting, and the further into the film I got, the more caught up I was. It explores similar themes to Pan's Labyrinth in terms of escape and coming to terms with something, whether that is establishing good and bad in Pan's Labyrinth or coming to accept a terrible fate that shouldn't be but must in Sucker Punch. It is definitely one I would recommend to other people, as it really is a fantastic film.
On the subject of good films, another one I recently watched was Dylan Dog Dead Of Night. It's a vampire/werewolf film which has been really overdone in a lot of culture lately, but this works, bringing together different lores and even managing just a hint of humour. It's a good laugh, even if it is weird.
Bye for now, and I hope you are all having a good summer. xxx
